New Favorite Read: The Hunger Games

If you saw the movie and fell in love but have NOT yet read the books, we MUST recommend to you, The Hunger Games. I saw the previews for this movie and was immediately interested but completely unaware of the story behind the script or the hype that would come of it. I simply thought "That looks like an interesting movie. We should see that." and then forgot about it completely.

Suddenly when the movie premiered, there were tweets, Facebook statuses, and news flashes galore. Everyone was seeing the movie and becoming obsessed. I had to know what this was all about, so for my birthday I told my hubby that I wanted to see The Hunger Games. When the movie began, I was immediately captivated, my eyes never leaving the screen. The story was so much more than I had gathered from the previews and I couldn't have expected any of the twists and turns in the plot. When I left the theater, I needed to know more. I wanted to know the pieces of story that often get left out when turning a book into a movie. I wanted to know the characters more deeply and understand how The Hunger Games began and where things would go. Thankfully I was able to review The Hunger Games for you all and let me tell you, this is now one of my absolute most favorite stories.

"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlaying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one girl and one boy between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has also resolved to outwit the creators of the games. To do that she will have to be the last person standing at the end of the deadly ordeal, and that will take every ounce of strength and cunning she has." - Book summary from Scholastic.

There is a heartache and sadness that will pull you in from the beginning and bring you to the place where this story comes to life. This book is so well written, you can feel every pain and every joy. Obviously I will not give away any of the story but I definitely feel this is a must read. I certainly will be reading again and again over the years and I know that I will never become bored with the depth of love and sadness. This is not a story for the weak. There are many scenes that will have your heart racing or your brow furrowed in anticipation but the intensity of the entire story is what will make this book impossible to put down, cover to cover.
