Taking Back Our Bodies With Nutrisystem

by Debbie Watts

This is not going to be your typical momAHOLIC diaries post. Where everything on our site is usually all business, this is going to get personal. Weight is a big issue in our country and has become an issue in my household. While still keeping things professional, I'm going to have to give a little bit of personal info about myself and my husband. I hope that our readers come to know me better and understand and support our journey.
 My husband and I were never very big growing up. I was a tiny 5'1" and 125lbs and he 5'9" and 165lbs. We were relatively active as kids and ate what our parents fixed for us. My mom is diabetic therefore she cooked for the whole family according to the diet she is supposed to follow. I grew up drinking ice water and unsweetened iced tea with snacks that consisted of fruits and veggies. I was taught the proper foundations of a healthy life. However, when I had my oldest daughter, I was told how easily the weight comes off with your first baby and being young I should have no problems. I got up to 165lbs in my pregnancy with my sweet Alyssa. I could never shed the weight after I had her. I was frustrated but not devastated. The fundamentals my parents worked so hard to teach me about eating healthy, went out the door when I was the one responsible for meal time in my home. My husband and I were  busy with our careers and used fast food as a crutch when we were too tired to cook after working all day.  Pound after pound we continued to gain. Every once in a while I would notice that something in my closet didn't fit anymore or when shopping for clothes I needed to buy another size up. I am fortunate enough to have a great husband who continuously tells me how beautiful I am, so I ignored the weight, putting on more with each pregnancy.
Our weight has finally become a focal point as a serious problem. We are not able to easily play with our children, running around and kicking a ball outside. We can't climb on playground equipment chasing after them, due to not only our size but the fact that we get out of breath. This was saddening. Our children love to be outdoors and a simple walk around the neighborhood has our bodies aching and our lungs screaming. When did we become these people? The ones who dread trips to the zoo or park where we know we won't be able to keep up with our minis? We decided it was time to change. No more failed attempts. No more quitting. This is it. We saw an opportunity to join the Nutrisystem Blogger program: Nutrisystem Nation, and we jumped. We're so excited to start this journey and take back our bodies and our lives. Change starts today!
Our current stats:

{the hubby doesn't think it's manly to measure his hips..haha!}
That is a big giant sad face. Those are big numbers for me. The hubs on the other hand...he wants to see the pounds and inches go down for sure, but he's not devastated like I am. However, he is a very committed man. He never starts anything he doesn't intend to finish, so I know he will be a great support in this journey. He looks at this as a game and he does NOT lose. I am nervous about failure but excited about loving the person I see in the mirror after these next few months.
Through our journey we will be sharing with you the ups and downs of the Nutrisystem program coupled with an exercise routine that we have worked out for ourselves. I will post our stories and accomplishments weekly and can't wait to hear back from our faithful momAHOLIC diaries readers!
