Medela: Vote for your Favorite NICU

As part of National Prematurity Awareness Month, Medela is hosting a Virtual Human Milk Collection Campaign throughout the month of November to help increase awareness of the importance of breastmilk for premature babies and support the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) that support them and their families.

Medela will donate a total of $30,000 in breastfeeding support products to NICUs–$5,000 to each of six geographic regions across the country.

Every year, 500,000 families are impacted by premature births and related complications. Our nation's NICUs help premature babies survive and thrive. Enabling hospitals to support moms in providing breastmilk to their babies is a critical to giving them a healthy start and preventing infections. The only way your favorite NICU can win is if you visit www.medelapreemieawareness.com to vote!

Each person may only vote once from now until November 30. For full details on the promotion, please visit www.medelapreemieawareness.com.
Additionally, Medela has recently announced the launch of its new Quick Clean Breastmilk Removal Soap, the newest addition to its line of Quick Clean products! The Quick Clean Soap saves time and makes cleaning easy – just add Quick Clean Soap and let everything soak for five minutes. This is a great product for moms and dads on the go!

Quick Clean Soap is designed specifically to break down the proteins and fats in breastmilk and removes breastmilk residue up to three days old in just minutes. It contains no added fragrance or taste that might discourage baby from breastfeeding, and is safe and hypoallergenic.

Medela Calma Review + Giveaway!

Breast is best...right? Well that may be true but breast feeding may not be an option or the right option for everyone. Whether you are able to breast feed or not most babies end up having to take a bottle at one point or another. Often times mom has to go back to work, wants to have dinner with friends, or is just not feeling well, and someone else will have to take a turn to feed baby. In some cases it is simply because baby can't latch properly {as it was in my case with my youngest}, isn't gaining enough weight or one of the {what seems like} millions of reasons that you end up giving your baby a bottle. If and when that time comes, do you know what bottle you will use? We do! Calma, by Medela, is our go-to bottle of choice!

Technically Calma is just the nipple but the Calma system is most often purchased with a Medela breast milk bottle included. Calma was created strictly for use with breast milk to imitate the breast, for the most natural feeding experience your baby can get other than breast feeding. The three part system makes this bottle great for switching back and forth between breast and bottle but also wonderful for breast milk - bottle fed only babies as well. Calma was developed to allow your baby to suck at their own pace and pause when needed without being flooded by milk {like most of the other bottles on the market today}. The shape of the nipple is similar to the breast which helps with babies who are normally breast fed to avoid the dreaded nipple confusion. The best part of the bottle is that this nipple DOES NOT LEAK... at all! Milk only comes out when your baby sucks! Say good-bye to wasting any of that "liquid gold" you worked so hard to get.

Another great feature is that all of the parts are interchangeable with other Medela products. Calma, by Medela will fit on the Medela breast milk storage bottles! No more pumping, and pouring from one bottle to the other just to feed your baby. If you are feeding your baby breast milk out of a bottle the Calma, by Medela is the bottle you want to give your baby! Calma is specially designed to prevent gas and other upset stomach issues within your baby. Many bottles claim they prevent gas or spit up or this and that, but Calma is the closest match to the breast which means it is the best option for when your baby must take a bottle instead of the breast.

Le bibble is the HOT new Mommy Must Have!

SO, bottles leak and babies dribble. I don't know about you but that bib or burp cloth ALWAYS seems to go missing when there's milk spilling down my little babes' chin. Have you ever just used your own shirt to save your little ones' clothes {or neck} from smelling like sour milk? Same here! But no need to any more. Rachel Flori-Urso {of Rachel Florio PR} introduced us to Le bibble® and finally the dribble issue is non-existent now!

What is Le bibble® you might ask. Well here's how it works...

Pull your Le bibble® over the top of your little ones' bottle where the nipple ring attaches to the bottle {where leaks occur} and ..... that's it! Easy right? Our thoughts exactly! This adorable little bottle bib {available in 8 different patterns} stops leaks from the bottle and is always readily available for you to swoop in and catch any dribble running down your baby's chin. Seriously, how fab is that?  Le bibble® is eco friendly and machine washable. One size fits all bottles and Le bibble® is reversible! The list goes on and on as to why Le bibble is so amazingly wonderful but why don't you try it out for yourself to see what we're raving about? At only $9.99 each these are affordable for you or great as a gift if you know someone who is expecting!

We had a few questions for Michelle, the owner and designer behind this innovative solution, and we'd like to share our chat with you!

{Tell us about yourself and your business, Le bibble®.}

I am a single mom to a beautiful 2 year old girl, Lucie, who is the inspiration behind my business and Le bibble®. Le bibble® is a patent pending designer and organic baby bottle bib that stops leaks from baby and bottle - in eco style. We officially launched the line one year ago and I'm happy to say Le bibble® can be found in 8 countries and over 50 boutiques and growing! My funfunctional® brand is based on the notion that daily activities can be made more fun through creative expression and design.

{When did you know you were going to take this from just a passing idea, to a business?}

As a NICU baby, Lucie spent her first week in the hospital and from day one was given bottles. I noticed how many of the bottles we used would leak and couldn't believe that these major brands of bottles didn't work properly. Additionally, Lucie was a very dribbly eater. Little drips of formula would spill down her chin, into her little neck. Le bibble® is an eco friendly solution to these problems that also makes a fashion statement!  The moment that I had the idea for Le bibble, it stuck.

I've always been a big thinker and when the idea happened it was to create a solution for everyone, not just for my own personal use. That said, it took me about two to three months from that moment to my actual first attempt to try and make what I had envisioned. I hand-sewed a prototype and pretty quickly realized I needed to learn how to use a sewing machine to make it attractive! I still have the originals which are pretty funny to see. I think being a single mom to a baby who I have to provide for made me very determined to make this work!

{What inspired the name?}

The name "bibble" came to me at the exact moment as the idea for the product! It was one of those "a-ha" moments that I remember so clearly as I was smack-dab in the middle of feeding my daughter a leaky bottle. Bibble is a made up word combining the words "bottle" and "bib" and I envisioned it as a fashionable elastic circular bib that would snap up under the cap and block the leaks. It evolved into an accessory that does much more than block leaks, but that was my original thought. I added the "Le" to "bibble" later to make the brand more interesting and to increase the chances that the trademark would pass, which it just did last month!

{What is up next for you, are there plans to expand the line to include more products?}

At this point my focus is purely on increasing the awareness and availability of Le bibble® before introducing new products into the line. I'd like to keep the business model simple - one product, many versions. The possibilities are endless with the fashion element of Le bibble® - so many possible designers to work with on unique limited editions, full organic lines, licensing arrangements, etc. I want Le bibble® to be a way mom and baby can express their unique sense of style and personality while enjoying the functional benefits Le bibble® provides. We accessorize everything else, so why not a baby bottle?

{Do you have any advice for others out there on starting up a business like yours?}

Just do it! Trust the process. Starting a business that involves bringing a product to the market takes time, so don't get discouraged about all the elements involved in bringing your idea to fruition. Even completing just one action a day adds up. And the next thing you know you're on a roll and you can't look back. I also think it's crucial to surround yourself with positive people who believe in you and your vision. It's a roller-coaster ride with many ups and downs and having people around who support you makes all the difference. Be willing to work harder than you've ever worked and remember to have fun!

We are so thankful Michelle had time to chat with us about Le bibble® in her super busy schedule and that Rachel Florio-Urso {of Rachel Florio PR} introduced us.

Keep up with Le bibble on Facebook and Twitter!!

We caught up with Susan, founder of Splendipity, to give us more details about the amazing products and how this company came to be! As always, a BIG thanks to Rachel Florio of Rachel Florio PR for sharing yet another wonderful brand with us!

{Tell us about yourself + your business.}

I'm a dreamer, a giver, a mother to 3 amazingly beautiful miracle babies and a wife. We are an active family, love traveling and the outdoors. The business is all about family, everyone gets involved at times. Our Splendipity line is 100% luxurious organic cotton, made with our Ultra-Soft Cotton Technology, ensuring the material touching your child's delicate skin is safe, free of chemicals and unbelievably soft.  The business has allowed me the opportunity to stay home with the children, only 1 is still with me full time, but the ability to be more actively involved in all of their lives. I am passionate about my products, the enivronment and our community, which is why we donate 3% to organizations close to our heart.  Our company is based on doing what's right and not about the dollar.

Pink Snuzzle Me $46.99

{What inspired you to create your brand and where did the name come from?}

Inspiration--MIRACLE BABIES!  My daughter was truly a miracle baby as we were not able to have children. So when I finally received this little miracle, I wanted to protect and keep her safe, especially living in the Midwest where weather does not favor well for us. We had seen products on the market that we felt were not economical nor practical and we needed a product that actually worked, was versatile and was good for the environment.  We have evolved our name three times since 2005 trying to capture the true essence of what we want our brand to be known for. This last time came with the help of my daughter who is 6.

{You recently launched a line called PeekaDid. Can you tell us a little bit about the new line?}

PeekaDid is all about the BOYS! I have 2 boys and they like different-hip-eclectic type of things. My good friend who is an amazing artist came up with some designs and all the boys flipped over them! We knew the market for BOYS ONLY was limited and quiet boring. We wanted something clever and funny so I decided I wanted a tongue-n-cheek type of line. So on all the onesies you have a clever picture but its on the BUTT that really gets you smiling. They are unique and playful, something different. All the accessories are multi-functional. We have given exclusive rights to another amazing company to put all our designs on their products for us. This line has been well received and alot of orders coming in. We wholesale to boutiques either on-line or storefront and have received numerous requests, all wanting for Spring 2012! PeekaDid is going to be a must-have 2012 trend!

{What is up next for Splendipity?}

Splendipity has some amazing things to show off in 2012!  We have a new product along with bringing in prints for fall of 2012.  I'm also launching a product representation/consulting company in February 2012 in Las Vegas. I currently have 3 amazing companies I represent along. This is a company model that most have never seen and I am excited to be launching at KidSHOW in Las Vegas. Much going on here!!

Splendipity Gives Back!

Splendipity gives 3% of their profits to charities such as Love Our Children USA, Operation Smile and Catholic Charities of Des Moines and Southwest Iowa, and several others. {How generous!!}

To stay up-to-date on the latest product releases from Splendipity make sure you "LIKE" their Facebook page and follow along on twitter! Stay tuned via your e mail subscription of the momAHOLIC diaries for more info on the PeekaDid line from Susan!

Showcasing a FAB Etsy Shop: Cotton Corner

Back in September, we briefly shared with you an ADORABLE photo prop we found on Etsy {see here}. Since then, we have been working with the designer, Kim, to bring you an exclusive interview and giveaway

Kim and her mom

We asked Kim a few questions to get to know her better and what inspires her passion and creativity. Here, she tells us all the details!

{1} Tell us about yourself and your shop, Cotton Corner...

I am a mother of six children ranging in ages of 15 to 4 years old. I have a
wonderful Husband who has supported me in my goal of staying home to care for our children. And though things have been tight at times we have been able to accomplish this.

{2} What inspired you to start your business?

I developed a love for crafting, sewing, and embroidery at an early age from my own mother. I did not know how to crochet until just recently. I saw some adorable crocheted hats and wanted to learn how to make them. Having such a talented mother has been a great blessing she showed me the basic stitches. From there I started making all kinds of crocheted items and learning more and more along the way. This opened a door for me to begin my own little business on ETSY.

{3} What is your favorite part about owning your own business?

I love to create things for people and my ETSY shop allows me to do this. I love that I can stay home with our youngest daughter and still help our family financially.

{4} Do you have a favorite item or best seller?

My best selling items are the ankle booties. They are a great way to keep little toes warm and protected and very stylish too!

{5} What's up next for Cotton Corner?

In the future I hope to expand and offer even more items such as scarves, blankets for photo shoots, a wider variety of hats, diaper covers and more. A special thanks to the momAHOLIC diaries for the opportunity to showcase some of my items from my shop in a giveaway.

{aww thank YOU Kim!}

Visit Kim's shop on Etsy to purchase any of the amazing items featured here plus SO much more!

Libbie & Winston, Oh How We Do Love You!

As you know, we are all about Etsy and we LOVE promoting the growing businesses found on the site! We recently connected with Anna, owner of the shop, Libbie & Winston, on Etsy and were able to check out some of her designs, as well as ask her a few questions to help you, our readers, get to know her and her business. We think she is absolutely FABULOUS and we know you will too!

Q:  Tell us a little bit about yourself + your business, Libbie & Winston.

A:  I'll try and keep this short, sweet and to the point - I can ramble...Let's start with the business - L+W is named after my two dogs, Libbie & Winston (who make having a 12 month old seem like a piece of cake!).  After finishing grad school (I earned my master's in interior design) and being pregnant I knew looking for a "real" job would be difficult. While I was pregnant I had made a few "iron-on" onesies, dog shirts etc for fun - after a few friends showed interest in the shirts through Facebook, L+W was born in one quick afternoon!  I never really thought it would grow as quickly as it has, but it has been non-stop crazy fun ever since!  I quickly realized my iron, cookie sheet (for heat) and biceps weren't meant for this business and traded in for a heat press to make things slightly more official.  Although L+W started with only onesies and children's tees, I have recently started offering iPhone cases, melamine dinnerware, and other home accessories.

As for a little bit about myself  - I spend most of my days chasing around my 12m old and am learning how to handle messes (I'm slightly OCD about clutter) and spend my nights attached to my computer working - (sorry for the 2am proofs).  My husband is in his LAST year of medical school (hooray!) and is sometimes recruited to work with me - he's a great invoicer, packer and shipper.

Q: When did the light bulb go off for you to begin your shop?

A: After a few orders from friends, I started a Facebook page to see what would happen and have had a blast!

Q: What is the best part about being a small business owner and entrepreneur?

A: Being able to stay at home with my daughter and work on my own schedule is the best part.  I also LOVE all aspects of doing every part of this business - I LOVE working with my customers directly to make exactly what they want for the product while also being able to sit back and just design products that I LOVE, too.  I LOVE getting feedback from my customers and hearing that they are pleased with their purchases.

Q: What is up next for you?

A: Check back after Christmas - my goal right now is to just make it through the holidays and make sure all my customers get their items on time!  One thing that keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the to-do list is my blog - I am dying to get it up and running, but more important orders etc have taken priority!

LOVE what you see here? Check out Anna's shop on Etsy - Libbie & Winston for these and her 50+ other designs! Thank you Anna for chatting with us!

Spoil Your Babe with Pognae USA!

Pognae USA makes an awesome line of soft baby carriers that allow your little babe to snuggle right up to you while you're out and about! Available in 8 different designs, the Pognae Baby Carrier fit babies up to 36 months or 45lbs and also fits an infant insert {sold separately} to better cuddle your newer, smaller baby when you're just starting out. With these unique features, you can't go wrong with with Pognae USA!

 Rachel Florio of Rachel Florio PR put us in touch with Kathleen from Pognae USA and we have an interview to share with you our readers!

{Tell us a little bit about yourself and Pognae USA.}

My name is Kathleen Dumlao Lee and I'm one of the founders of Pognae USA.  We had so many friends that had babies or babies on the horizon and the search for the perfect carrier was truthfully really tough.  Either they were too complicated, not cute, or just way too expensive.  A good friend of mine brought the Pognae carrier from Korea as a gift, and we all fell in love with it.  My husband and I decided that the US was missing out by not having this, so we, along with some partners, worked on getting it here.  We launched in September of 2011 and it has been so exciting!

{What inspired the name?}

The product name in Korea is Pognae - which means security, warmth and comfort.  We truthfully toyed with rebranding with a different name here in the US, but the the meaning behind it was exactly what we felt when we saw and used the carrier.

{What do you feel makes the Pognae baby carrier different from similar ones on the market?}

The baby carrier stands out in two main ways, style & comfort!  We offer 8 styles for parents to choose from, which allows everyone to express their personal style, from solid colors to military print!  Our design also has padded straps and an ergonomically fit belt, for the mommy's comfort and a mesh cooling vent to cool your baby down while being in the carrier!

{Do you plan on expanding the brand and offering more products?}

Right now, we are focusing on bringing more styles/colors and an updated design to the US.  Make sure to check out our newest Elephant style - it's super cute!!

{Any new projects your working on...or, what's up next?}

We have so many ideas on what to do next!! During our launch, my husband, Matt, and I found out that we are expecting!  We are just finishing up our first trimester, so in addition to pushing Pognae forward in 2012, we will be expecting our first little one :).  My guess is that s/he will bring a lot of inspiration for our next project.

{CONGRATS TO KATHLEEN AND HER HUSBAND MATT!}

We LOVE the Pognae Carrier and know that you will too so visit their website to buy yours today!
